At the recent Irish Medical Organisation AGM, the following enhancements to prehospital care in Ireland were proposed and carried. Thank you to Dr. Mick Molloy and our medical colleagues for their support in advancing the role of the paramedic in Ireland.

Pre Hospital Care

  1. Recognising the vital important of pre hospital emergency care and the requirements under the future reconfiguration of trauma services in Ireland, the IMO calls on the Department of Health and the HSE to:
  1. Review and publish the capacity of ambulance services required particularly in rural areas to meet the requirements of transport from hubs to clinical program sites
  2. Appoint a Chief Paramedic Officer in Department of Health and
  3. Introduce legislation to give regulatory functions to the Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council
